Are you a secret aspiring artist that is anxious to spring into the art world?Do you have a secret longing to have your art featured in a gallery or art show but have no idea how to sell your art?

There are so many opportunities today for the aspiring artist to get the word out about his or her work.  However, prior to looking for galleries at which to have an exhibit, perhaps a little groundwork is in order first.

Consider a couple of questions about your dream of being paid for being an artist.Is your identity that of a unique artist? You can think of this as branding yourself, in a similar way as companies do branding.How do you wish your potential buyers to see you?  Before you even think about how to sell art, you should have a memorable and recognizable identity as an artist.

If you want to become a professional artist who is paid for his work, you need to set some goals. Have you asked yourself what you hope to accomplish with your craft?  Will your art be a hobby or favorite pastime, or will it be your full time living?You must consider and answer those questions first before you start researching how to sell your art.

Who will your potential buyers be?  What are their demographics?  You may decide to start only locally, but regardless of this decision, you will likely wish to have a web presence in order to learn how to sell art online.

It would be a mistake to only use the internet, however, as it lacks the personal touch. It will also be a good idea to mingle with gallery owners and other artists if you plan to become a successful fulltime artist yourself.

It will take time, so be sure you have a great deal of patience. Art is unfortunately a difficult and competitive business.  You may even feel as if your earnings are not commensurate with the time and effort you’ve put into your work.  Nevertheless, if you are committed to your goal, don’t give up and be sure to give your artistic expression time to blossom.

Once you have completed the pre-planning, such as establishing your unique identity and setting goals, you can start promoting and learning how to sale your art.
