The origins of today’s guitar can be traced back a great many generations with many of the ancient instruments showing elements similar to the modern instrument. The majority of people learn to play the guitar by purchasing a teach yourself guitar book. There is a selection of publications which include audio CDs that make the learning far easier. Such publications commonly show you a number or simple chords and bar chords as well as power chords together with a small collection of simple songs.

A superb way to learn how to play is by buying a DVD or, even better, an interactive DVD which can teach you various different techniques and styles. As well as tuition DVDs offering basic lessons it is possible to aquire specialist versions which teach you how to play in a similar fashion to a particular performer. Commonly these contain a selection of tracks by that performer so that you can master their style.

As well as learning from interactive DVDs on your computer you can also get guitar lessons online. Some people offer tuition on a personal basis via webcams and downloadable material. Many people know of the console game “Guitar Hero” and you can even get a similar thing online but for real guitars. Electric Guitar Vs Acoustic Guitar

The acoustic guitar is available in a number of types but all have a sound box behind the strings to amplify the sound of the modulating strings. A large number of folk have seen a classical guitar and most acoustic guitars are of this design, however there are many other types available for example the Resonator.

The electric guitar is the best known type but it is found in such a wide selection of styles that you are only restricted by your own imagination. There are a small number classic styles such as the Gibson Les Paul, Fender Stratocaster (Strat) and Fender Telecaster which are the most famous.But, with digital technology, these three classic guitars and more can be found in a guitar called the Variax which uses digital modeling to shape the tone of the Variax to sound exactly the same as the original.
