Cover Bands - The Most Popular Choice For Live Entertainment

Cover bands are still most people’s number one choice for musical entertainment at their wedding, birthday or anniversary party. Cover bands are able to play a wider range of party music thus entertain a wider range of people than say a blues, rock, swing or jazz bands. In fact, if you pardon the expression, they cover a much wider range of musical tastes!

Cover bands still are our number one request, especially from wedding clients” says Jeff Williams of Jazz not Jazz. “Cover bands get people to the dance floor and keep them there boogying all night: if they have the right repertoire!” “Out of all the cover bands we have worked with it is the Roadhouse Five that continually get the most plaudits” “They play a mix of Classic Soul and Classic Pop from the sixties and seventies along with favourites from more recent years.”

The reason for the success of this band over competitors is the considered choice of repertoire. Cover bands need to keep their ear to the ground…or more importantly the television, the radio and to tv adverts! “Green Onions is big at the moment” says Jeff. “It is being used for a frozen food company on mainstream television, everybody jumps on the floor when it is played. They don't know how they know it, it has simply grown into their brain, but they are familiar with it and they like it!”

If you asked most cover bands they would agree that the classic soul repertoire seems to have the most impact. Again, because it tends to be used for commercials. “The number of times I Feel Good, by James Brown, has been used to sell products, it’s unbelievable” Jeff muses.  “That said, I’m glad, because I love playing it! And people fill the floor when we cover it! “Cover bands everywhere should pay thanks to the unoriginality of advertising men everywhere for keeping this song, and many others alive in order to give musicians the opportunity to carry on playing these classics!

“As a covers band we are lucky this is the recipe that people love. Can you imagine if everyone asked for Kagagoogoo, The Smiths or The Bay City Rollers? We wouldn’t be enjoying our work half as much!”
