It is commonplace, all over the world, for author school visits to be arranged. Teachers are always looking for methods to develop reading and writing so that children’s lives can be enriched. Inspiration and understanding flows from the visiting author to the children and gives them an uplifting change to normal school life.

Reading a good quality book, or creating an exciting narrative, can certainly nourish young minds in a multitude of ways. Successful education is built upon the secure foundation of quality reading and writing.

Literacy skills are extremely important in life, whether someone is actively being creative with words or simply reading the information on a packet of food. A visiting writer has the enthusiasm and skill to entice children into the realm of books.

It is a marvellous time for children and teachers when author visits happen. The writer will address individual classes of children, two classes together or even the whole school.

The children will gain true knowledge because it comes directly from the author.  The expertise of a professional author will be clearly explained to them. They can enter into the author’s mind as he explains how he became an author. They will hear about the joys and difficulties of creating books.

Authors are often asked, “How do you create such a unique plot?” The response from a genuine writer will come from his heart and he can describe his own creative ways. An author who creates stories of adventure and excitement can relate how he creates his ideas to the children. Their own instances of imagination can be recounted. In this way, children can learn about creativity and how to access it themselves.

During the author’s visit, children can buy his books, which is an additional benefit arising from the day. When the books are autographed by the author, the children receive something personal to each of them. This means that the book they have bought to read is also a special reminder of the day.

If you want to help children’s education then organise author school visits. It will boost their development in literacy in a refreshing and fun way.
